“Even before graduating (MFA, UCLA, 1963) Jerrold Burchman was asked to participate in a group exhibition at Felix Landau Gallery in Los Angeles, which featured such artists as Sam Francis and Francis Bacon. He was off to a good start. Los Angeles at that time was experiencing a cultural explosion…and a demand that its artists compete at a national level. Burchman was among the best of the young abstract painters.” Henry T. Hopkins, Director, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 1974–1986.
